Anyone with a PS Plus Premium subscription who's been interested in checking out Black Myth: Wukong is in luck as a new time-limited trial for the Game of the Year nominee has appeared on the PS Store. You'll be able to sample the PS5 title for two hours, from the moment you boot the game up. That means you get to see the visually impressive opening, as well as get a good grasp of Chapter 1.
Black Myth: Wukong is currently nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, and has the chance to win other categories through further nominations. It only just won the Ultimate Game of the Year category at the Golden Joystick Awards this very evening, which is based on a public vote.
In our Black Myth: Wukong PS5 review, we awarded an 8/10 score and said: "One after another, its spectacular boss battles steal the show — a procession of memorable encounters that showcase the game's incredible artistry. As a whole, however, the experience is held back by limited level design and frustrating technical issues on PS5 — a damn shame, since Wukong is pure monkey magic at its peak."
Now, the chance to sample it for two hours at no extra cost seems more than worth it. If you love what you play, the full game is £54.99 / $59.99. Will you be playing the demo? Let us know in the comments below.

I pay a lot of money for PS Premium. I don't consider it a bit of luck that I can play a demo of this game. In fact, I think putting demos behind a paywall is one of the stupidest moves Sony has ever made.
@riceNpea came here to say this exact thing. Whose stupid idea was it to put demos behind a paywall, I've been on the fence about a few games and if I had the ability to try them out first it might have pushed me over into actually making a purchase. But I'm not going to go and drop £60+ on a maybe.
Totally agree I have the lowest membership and might buy this game if I get to try it.
The most stupid decision Sony has ever made.
Let us all try the game and you might get more sales.
But then again they seem to be the most stubborn bunch of morons at the moment.
Sometimes they really don’t deserve us.
Once again, another rediculous decision by Sony to lock demos behind the highest tier paywall of a subscription. I mean come on. Who on earth makes this rediculous decisions thinking they are a good idea?
I'm curious to know is Black Myth Wukong the lowest rated game by metacritic to ever be nominated? It's a 76 on PS5 which to me doesn't scream game of the year, and if they are judging it by its sales metric then games like Pokémon should be included every year it releases.
Crazy locking away the demo, there's probably alot of people who have basic ps plus, or none at all, possibly considering buying this but won't without trying, I mean dont they want more money or?
I remember the good aul days,.waiting for the Bi-monthly gaming magazine with the demo disc, anywhere between 5 and 10 games up for testing
And now a demo is considered a treat
***** greed man
So is this a demo or a trial?
I’ve avoided trials like the plague, as I’m not sure whether or not they’ll add trophies to your list (because a trial is just that—a timed portion of the same full game you can choose to buy thereafter). Demos have never awarded any trophies, so they’re safe. The last thing I want is to start a game trial, end up hating the game, but be locked into playing trash for x amount of hours because the trial added trophies. I wish everyone would call a demo a demo and a trial a trial and not try to use them interchangeably.
@Balaam_ I belive it's a trial, considering the download size 104GBs 😱😱
@riceNpea to Sony, it’s a “feature” they believe is a selling point/another appeal that, in all honesty, should just be readily available for everyone. So I agree with you 100%. I don’t know a soul who upgraded to PS+ Premium for demos 😂😂
Demos let people who are on the fence play it to figure out if it’s for them so it should only help sales. But maybe Sony is at the viewpoint that people who’d normally buy the game may change their mind in the opposite direction. I don’t agree with this if that’s their line of thinking. Most likely, they want to justify the price of PS+ Premium
@UltimateOtaku91 It is. Never expected the game to be there for that reason, usually you can pretty much guess by Metacritic scores what games will be nominated, but this year they put Black Myth for some reason.
@UltimateOtaku91 I’d be ok if Pokémon started getting nominated. Arceus deserved a nod in 2022 even if it had no chance of winning (though so too did Kirby and Triangle Strategy). No idea what won in 1999, but Gold/Silver deserved a nod then.
As for anyone that hasn’t played Black Myth, two hours is all you’ll need to make a call on this game, if it’s for you or not. It doesn’t get any easier, but it does get buggier and the story never congeals unless you know the source material. If a challenging boss rush with some open areas in between does it for you and you like strong visuals (and, again, if you don’t care much for your games telling a cohesive story), you will find some strong combat gameplay here. The game deserves its Metascore for sure.
@UltimateOtaku91 TGA has close relationship with Tencent and China is becoming a more and more important market for both the industries and media (i.e., TGA). Audiences of Pokémon and CoD do not bring the influence TGA need.
In my opinion, BMW is a good game, but I would put Stellar Blade, Echoes of Wisdom and Silent Hill 2 over it as the GOTY contenders.
Just a Demo?
Really?......
@Balaam_ Somome takes trophies way too seriously.
@Major_Player Does Mr. Xbox Shill expect full price games for a nominal fee per month?
@Nowings @UltimateOtaku91 it feels like an acknowledgement that the Chinese games industry sure have made a AAA game that's on par with a lot of what the western industry puts out. That's certainly an accomplishment, and deserves to be celebrated, but it doesn't feel like the same thing as being Game of the Year, and I think there'd be more controversy if it won than Shadow of the Erdtree which doesn't really belong there either.
